Group Activities
The rally included a number of "Minnie tours". We didn't go on all of them but here are a few pictures from some of the activities.
On Wednesday, we took a cruise on Lake Buchanan and then ate at Cooper's Barbecue in Llano. Lake Buchanan was very low so we couldn't explore the upstream areas that this cruise is better known for. But it was a very pleasant outing on the lake.
On Thursday, the group went to the Lyndon B Johnson National Historical Park. We skipped that part to enjoy the morning at the lake. I'm happy that the group did go to the adjacent state-run Living History Museum because that's a favorite place of ours. Afterwards, the group enjoyed the town of Fredericksburg and then dinner at a German-style restaurant.
We arrived in Fredericksburg in the afternoon and did some shopping, then met the others at the restaurant. Unfortunately, the restaurant decided they could not seat us together even in a virtually empty restaurant. A small number of us revolted and ate at a very friendly little Rathskeller, which is appropriately in a nicely decorated cellar. The restaurant we left is Friedhelm's Bavarian Inn, which we will not be going to again.
On Friday, the group went to Fall Creek Vineyards. We learned that their wine grapes are all suffering from some disease and they have to buy grapes to make wine. In Driftwood, near to our house, the local winery lost all their crop from a late frost. In the evening we got together for snacks, drinks, and talk.
On Saturday there was a barbecue, but it was awfully hot in the pavilion! On Sunday we returned home while some of the others went to Mustang Island and/or Padre Island National Park for deep sea fishing.
