Inks Lake State Park 2009
We went to Inks Lake State Park near Burnet, Texas, from May 26 to May 31, 2009 in order to attend the Skinnie Winnie View-Navion Rally.
We had never been to Inks Lake before, but it is a lovely destination. The lake is beautiful (unlike Lake Buchanan), the park is well maintained (and the showers hot), the campsites nice. It is huge though and very very popular, especially on the weekend. Despite the crowds, the campground didn't seem crowded.
We took the Honda so we could easily and cheaply drive around and so Pyewackett the cat could enjoy an air conditioned environment in the park while we explored the area.
The were not putting Skinnie Winnie people together so when we found our assigned spot too unlevel, we looked for the best spot we could find and switched to it. We were nicely separated from other campsites directly on a little bay with some shallow water that the birds and turtles loved. Even when they set up 7 or 8 tents in the neighboring campsite (that isn't legal, is it?), our site was not noisy. The flip side is the noise from our air conditioner didn't bother anyone else!
The rally included Minnie tours which were interesting and well planned.
Yes, it was hot. Nights tended to cool off, but afternoons were seasonally hot. We had some nice trees at our site and it was very pleasant to sit outside in the mornings and usually in the evenings. The water was right there at our feet, but we didn't go wading or swimming. That would have cooled us off!
We were very surprised to find the countryside covered with gorgeous wildflowers! We live only about 80 miles away and we had very poor wildflower display this year due to drought and what there was was long over.
