Yellowstone: Volcanic features
Yellowstone National Park includes a gigantic volcanic cauldron of a super volcano that exploded about 642,000 years ago.
The Mud Volcano area is not far north of Fishing Bridge (Yellowstone Lake). Norris Geyser Basin is near Norris. We then returned to Canyon Village and went north toward Tower Falls and Mammoth.
Mammoth Hot Springs consists of travertine formations, which can grow very rapidly.
After spending the night at Madison, we continued south. Fountain Paint Pot is in the Lower Geyer Basin south of Madison. After a picture of a colorful flow into the Firehole River, the rest of the pictures are from the Upper Geyser Basin.
