Million Dollar Highway
Actually, only part of US 550 is the Million Dollar Highway - that's the section between Ouray and Silverton. The road leaves Montrose following the Uncompahgre River and goes over Red Mountain Pass (11,008 feet). It was on this section that a rock tried to kill us.
After going through Silverton, the road climbs over Molas Pass (10,910 feet). And then there's Coal Bank Pass (10,640 feet).
Driving the road only takes a couple of hours in good weather, if you don't have to move rocks off the road to get through.
